Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar with BJP MLAs, three MGP MLAs, three Goa Forward Party MLAs and three other Independent MLAs met the Governor Mridula Sinha on Sunday evening and staked claim to form government in Goa. They met the governor with letters of support to stake claim to form BJP government.

Parrikar held a press conference  after meeting the Governor. Saying that he has not resigned as Defence Minister yet, Parrikar said, "This is a mandate given by the people, though we fell short of majority. Together we have completed the magic figure of 21."

"We met the Governor, expecting an invitation. Once we receive it, we will consult our colleagues and decide the date for swearing in," Parrikar said.

State unit chief Vinay Tendulkar said, "BJP central leadership has agreed that Manohar Parrikar should head the BJP legislature party in Goa."

Earlier, BJP's Nitin Gadkari said, "MGP, GFP said during our discussions that if Manohar Parrikar becomes Goa CM candidate, then we will support. Manohar Parrikar will have to give resignation as Defence Minister before becoming Goa CM, but he has not given it yet."

Soon after this Goa Forward Party's Vijay Sardesai said, "We have decided to support BJP to form the Govt under leadership of Manohar Parrikar.  We will evolve a Common Minimum programme within 1 month of formation of Government."

Extending support to Parrikar, Sardesai said, "We do not see anybody else in legislature party of BJP capable of leading Goa. Want maximum development."
