Sunil Sethi says the BJP has never shied away from elections and that the party has a chance to form the next government in the state
The BJP has sounded poll bugle in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday after Governor Satya Pal Malik dissolved the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday evening.
A BJP core group meeting was held in Jammu on Thursday to discuss the current political situation and it was unanimously decided to gear up for state Assembly polls.
"We have resolved to be ready for the coming elections. There is no other possibility other than the elections. We are already going through the panchayat elections and we will prepare for Assembly elections too," said Sunil Sethi, chief spokesman of J&K BJP.
Sethi said the BJP has never shied away from elections and that the party has a chance to form the next government in the state. "NC, PDP and Congress coming together means that they are one and the same. There is no ideological difference between them except for sharing power. We find it is the biggest opportunity for the BJP to win the polls," he said
He also noted that there are chances that Assembly elections might be held with the general elections. "Elections has to be held in six months. Probably it is going to be held at the same time of parliamentary polls," he said
Welcoming the dissolution of the Legislative Assembly, the BJP said that Governor Satya Pal Malik's decision was in a right direction because there were chances of horse trading as the alliance between the NC, PDP and Congress was not compatible.
"There would have been horse trading and there were chances of having an alliance which was not moral. There was no compatibility and that could have put the state into more dangerous situations. Separatism and militancy would have increased and it would have led to isolation of whole region," Sethi said.
