Senior BJP state leaders who partook in the law violation movement on Wednesday came down heavily on the West Bengal state government pointing out the escalating number of cases of violence against women and deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

State BJP president Dilip Ghosh said that because BJP was winning in one state after the other and that had rattled West Bengal Chief Minister Manata Banerjee.

“’Delhi gelo, Tripura gelo, Bangla bole jai jai. Tai bhoi peyeche didibhai’ (Delhi, Tripura are lost, Bengal is almost gone too. That is why Mamata is rattled),” Ghosh said at the end of the rally at Bentinck Street-Ganesh Chandra Avenue Road crossing.

He said that the TMC government had forgotten the violence they had unleashed after getting into power but the BJP had not.

“If need be we will return it with interest,” he said. Ghosh also warned police officials from being over enthusiastic in their ‘attempt to please the Mamata government’. “You will have to be on service for a long time but it is not very sure that the TMC regime will last for a long time. If you overact, we will forget that you are wearing police uniform,” Ghosh added.

Sinha said that it was a shame that in a state which has a woman Chief Minister, there were so many cases of violence against women. “We have two suggestions for Mamata. The name Mamata doesn’t suit her given the violence here in Bengal. She should change it to Mumtaz Begum as all she does is appeasement of a particular community. Also because of her new affinity towards the CPI(M), she should add the letter M for Marxist beside TMC,” Sinha said.

He added that Mamata was going soft on CPI(M) because she needed it with her to fight against the BJP in Bengal.

Mukul Roy too joined the attack saying that the political scenario in Bengal will change with the forthcoming Panchayat election.

“The government is that is of thieves led by the biggest thief, Mamata Banerjee. Previously the Left Front government only prevented people from voting. They did not stop other political parties from carrying out meetings and rallies. The present dispensation, however, does not allow any other political party to even put up a meeting,” he said.

The rally saw the participation of thousands of party supporters and members of the Women’s wing of the party who had gathered at the party headquarters on Murlidhar Sen Lane in north Kolkata and marched towards Lal Bazar, the Kolkata Police headquarters but they were stopped on Ganesh Chandra Avenue.
