The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) on Sunday hit back at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her remark alleging there was a state of 'super emergency' in the country.

BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli advised Banerjee to 'introspect' and said that it is actually the Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief who is imposing 'super emergency' in West Bengal and sending people to jail just for hailing Lord Ram.

"Mamata Banerjee should introspect. The super emergency is the thing imposed by her. If anybody chants 'Jai Shri Ram', that person is sent to custody. She must see what she has done to Bengal. People want peace and prosperity there," said Kohli.

TARGET 200

  • BJP has prepared a plan to win more than 200 seats in West Bengal in the assembly elections slated to be held in 2021.

  • According to a party source, Home minister Amit Shah met Bengal state BJP leaders over the last few days and has decided to form a team of four members on every seat

Earlier in the day, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee had tweeted saying, an era of 'super emergency' emerged in the country. TMC supremo tweeted: "On InternationalDayofDemocracy today, let us once again pledge to safeguard the constitutional values our country was founded on. In this era of 'Super Emergency', we must do all it takes to protect the rights and freedoms that our Constitution guarantees."

Mamata has been highly critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s government and has on several occasions accused it of taking away the autonomy of constitutional institutions and muzzling dissent.

Last week she took out a rally over NRC issue were she had warned Centre that she will not allow NRC exercise to be conducted in West Bengal till she is alive. The International Day of Democracy is celebrated on September 15 every year since the resolution was passed on November 8, 2007, in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The day is celebrating for promoting the tenets of democracy.

TMC and the BJP have locked horns on several issues including the arrest of former Kolkata commissioner Rajeev Kumar in Saradha Chit Fund scam, cut money and the alleged attacks on BJP leaders in the state.

In a bid to overthrow TMC, Bhartiya Janata Party has prepared a plan to win more than 200 seats in West Bengal in the assembly elections slated to be held in 2021. According to a party source, Home minister Amit shah met Bengal state BJP leaders over the last few days and has decided to form a team of four members on every seat which will include MPs, MLAs and local organisational heads.

"Also, the leader selected for a particular seat will have no past connection with that constituency. For instance, if someone is from Howrah seat, then they will be selected for the Darjeeling seat. Reason for doing so is that the team can prepare fair reports," the source adds. The teams have also been tasked to prepare a report for each area to see if there is any groupism in the party in order to neutralize it before the elections. All the teams will start work from October 8 and the leaders will be in their appointed constituency to observe the current situation closely and prepare a concrete report, the source added.
