A day after BJP's clean chit to party chief Nitin Gadkari, who is facing opposition from within over alleged corruption, the Congress said the party should introspect on its past attacks on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

"The BJP should introspect. The double speak and the values are something that they (BJP) will have to answer and also for people who have constantly targeted the prime minister," Congress spokesperson Renuka Chowdhury told reporters.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been targeting Manmohan Singh and asking for his resignation over the 2G spectrum scam and later over the allocation of coal blocks.

Reacting to the statement of BJP leader Ram Jethmalani who said that by giving a clean chit to Gadkari, the party was compromising with its principles, Chowdhury said it was for Jethmalani and his party to sort out the issue.

"You can clearly see the identification of the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) and non-RSS members of the BJP. They are all dual members of the dual ideologies. So, you can see the divide very, very clearly," said Chowdury.

On a query whether controversies around Gadkari would benefit the Congress, Chowdhury said: "We do not measure ourselves by the yardstick of the BJP."

"They have really never set the bar very high. So we do not go by those measures and yardsticks. We go with our commitments to the people and towards the development of this nation. The BJP does not reach very well in any of those aspects," she said.
