Even as the Opposition increased pressure on the Modi government, demanding sacking of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar for mishandling the situation post Dera chief Baba Ram Rahim's conviction in a rape case, the BJP stood firmly behind Khattar saying the Centre is not considering any such move for now.

Rebutting Opposition charges, BJP's in-charge of Haryana Anil Jain said, "It's a rumour that Khattar has been summoned. Opposition should not politicise the matter. Considering the following of Baba, the Haryana government did not allow any violence to take place when he was being presented in the court."

He insisted that in the given situation, Haryana government rather handled the situation very well.

Instead, senior BJP leaders seemed peeved at the Panchkula-based CBI court for hauling up the Khattar government for its gross inefficacy in controlling.

"Khattar will not be called to explain. How the administration could have handled the situation when Commissioner Police (CP) Panchkula, Additional Director General (ADG) Police and Home Secretary were made to sit in the court while the state was witnessing violence," said a senior leader adding a veiled warning that "if court gets aggressive, this narrative will be strongly highlighted by the Haryana BJP."

Attacking Haryana government, Opposition parties including Congress, CPM and BSP said the least Modi government can do after such huge-scale violence is the immediate dismissal of Khattar government.

"I have never seen seen such kind of ruckus in a government,"said former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Huda adding that "if the government does not resign then the Centre must impose President's rule." Senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi too demanded immediate imposition of President's rule in the state.

Holding BJP's "vote bank" politics and "embarrassing criminal negligence" responsible for Friday's violence, BSP chief Mayawati questioned BJP's silence on Sakshi Maharaj's statement in favour of Baba Ram Rahim and termed it a contempt of the Court.

Lambasting Haryana government for failing to take adequate preventive measures despite having prior knowledge and widespread apprehension of trouble and violence that amounts to serious dereliction of duty, CPM politburo also sought immediate dismissal of Khattar government.
