Gujarat BJP's list of candidates for 70 seats announced on Friday gave no surprise or shocks to anyone, including voters or the candidates themselves. There were speculations that the party may not repeat many of its sitting MLAs taking the anti-incumbancy factor, but BJP has given a chance to 51 sitting candidates and changed only two of them, again in one constituency where the husband bagged the ticket replacing his wife. Moreover, there was no change in seats too.

A senior party leader said, "BJP would never let people or opponents feel that there was anti incumbency prevailing against the party of its sitting MLAs. If the party would not repeat the sitting MLAs, it would have given an indication that there was a fear of losing, in fact that is not the situation. This is why the BJP repeated almost the sitting MLAs."

"Looking at the list, one can easily see that the candidates who lost were given a chance again. Of course we believe that the young and new faces should be given an opportunity but it is better to field a young face where the fight is one sided. The party will also take care of this factor in the second list," added the leader.

The BJP has given a clear signal that no bigwig was worried about his/her own constituency and they have not changed their seats. There were speculations that including CM Vijay Rupani, Dy CM Nitin Patel and many senior ministers would change the seats for safe passage, but this did not happen and party put a full stop over such speculations.

"Deputy CM Nitin Patel had addressed the media the day before and he had clearly said that no leader would change their seats may any factor prevail. This was the display of the confidence over the voters and party leaders. This also indicates that second list also would be accordingly and other big leaders also will not change their seats and no surprises will be given in that too," the leader added.
