Offensive rants again created an uproar in Parliament -- this time of a Trinamool Congress MP against prime minister Narendra Modi and BJP functionaries.

An infuriated BJP is all set to bring a notice in the House and seek action against TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee for what it dubbed as derogatory remarks against the prime minister and former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.

The decision to condemn the TMC MP's tirade was taken at a meeting of the BJP parliamentary party on Tuesday morning. "The BJP parliamentary party unanimously condemned the unruly and indecent remarks made by Mamata Banerjee and the TMC leader against the prime minister and other BJP leaders. The party feels such remarks were against the democratic spirit and civic ethics," minister of state for parliamentary affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.

Just as the zero hour began in Lok Sabha, BJP MP from Darjeeling SS Ahluwalia raised the issue and demanded an apology from the MP or a resolution against him, without taking his name. Banerjee, while addressing a rally in Hooghly district on Sunday, had made scathing remarks against Modi and party leader and West Bengal in-charge Siddharth Nath Singh. Parliamentary affairs minister Venkaiah Naidu backed the BJP's demand.

"I would request the member to apologise as the kind of language used against the prime minister of the country is wrong... He has also made derogatory remarks against former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri," he said. He cited Banerjee remarks that had Shastri been alive he would have regretted getting married after seeing the actions of his grandson (Siddharth Nath Singh).minister of state for parliamentary affairs Rajiv Pratap Rudy said if the MP failed to apologise, the ruling side will be forced to bring a censure motion against him.

CPM member Mohammad Salim also stood up and supported the BJP's demand for an apology. The party's notice against comments made by TMC MP Tapas Pal during the monsoon session was still pending.

Banerjee, however, sat silently. His party leader Saugata Roy raised objections to the minister naming the member without prior notice. Naidu said the members would bring a notice.

Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, who repeatedly said that nobody can be forced to apologise, adjourned the House for lunch. The TMC, along with other Opposition parties, had been demanding a resolution in Rajya Sabha against remarks made by Niranjan Jyoti. The minister had apologised in the House following an Opposition furore over her rally speech. The TMC has been at loggerheads with the BJP targeting its president Amit Shah and party leaders.
