The BJP on Saturday promised simplification of existing tax system and bringing judicial, administrative and educational reforms in the country if the party is voted to power. Besides, the party said it would would have no objection to Article 370 which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir if it helps in the state’s development.
Speaking at the BJP national council meeting here on Saturday morning, party president Rajnath Singh said, “J&K is a very serious, very sensitive region for us... If J&K develops because of Article 370, then we have no objection in keeping it.”
Singh went on to add that there is no change in BJP’s stance on Jammu and Kashmir. “On Article 370, our stand is the same... if J&K is not able to integrate with the national mainstream, if it is a conspiracy, then BJP will not accept Article 370 in any way,” he said.
Participating in a discussion on the party’s economic resolution at the national council meeting, former BJP president Nitin Gadkari said that if the BJP is voted to power, the government led by Narendra Modi would rationalise and simplify current tax system, with reform in judicial, administrative and education. Gadkari, who heads the committee preparing vision document of the party ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, said that the existing taxation system is ambiguous and needed to be rationalised. “The BJP would explore possibilities to get people rid of taxes on each and every service,” he added.
Earlier, Gadkari had hinted that the party BJP might include a proposal to abolish income, sales and excise taxes in the vision document of his party. However, dna had last week reported that the party would drop the proposal from its vision document.
The BJP vision document will talk about transparent and resulted-oriented time-bound delivery of services, ending license and permit raj. Outlining the BJP’s vision document at the national council meet, Gadkari also promised to diversify the agriculture sector towards fulfilling country’s energy and petroleum needs. Gadkari emphasized on improving infrastructure, commerce, agriculture and defence sectors.
Hitting back at prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh for his statement that Muslims have the first claim on the country resources, the BJP in its economic resolution also said that poor people of the country have the first right on the country’s resources irrespective of caste and religion.
