Getting a cue of deep fissures in Madhya Pradesh Congress that came to the fore in an ugly spat between senior leaders Digvijaya Singh and Jyotiraditya Scindia, the BJP on Thursday took potshots at Congress president Rahul Gandhi for his inability to keep the flock together.

Incidentally, the verbal duel between two leaders over ticket distribution happened in front of Rahul Gandhi. Assembly elections in the central India state are due on November 28.

The spat reportedly forced Gandhi to resolve the crisis by setting up a three-member committee consisting Ashok Gehlot, Veerappa Moily and Ahmed Patel.

According to observers, the infighting in the party escalated after Digvijaya Singh, annoyed for getting sidelined by the leadership, shot a letter to Sonia Gandhi asking for tickets for 57 candidates and also complained about being ignored and accused the Central Election Committee of running ticket distribution ticket.

Digvijaya Singh, however, denied writing any such letter. "What a fraud! I have never written this letter," he tweeted on Tuesday night. Some party leaders also deny any such letter.

The developments, however, gave the BJP a fresh handle to attack Congress.

Describing Congress as a diffused party having a "confused" president Rahul Gandhi, BJP mocked at the reported fighting over ticket distribution and chief minister's chair.

"Rahul is a confused president and under a confused president, the Congress is defused. The kind of infighting within the Congress...Digvijaya Singh takes on Jyotiraditya Scindia openly and that too in front of Rahul Gandhi," said BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said.

Patra said Digvijaya Singh writing a letter to Sonia Gandhi saying he was not being heard in the party shows that the Congress has lost the battle in five states shows that in 2019 the Congress and Rahul Gandhi are facing a debacle.

"The people of this country are not confused. They want a strong government and not a weak government," he said.

DIGGY-SCINDIA SPAT

The verbal duel between Digvijaya Singh and Jyoti-raditya Scindia over ticket distribution happened in front of Rahul Gandhi. The duo apparently didn’t give two hoots to the presence of the AICC chief there.
