The BJP on Thursday observed 'law violation' programme protesting against the alleged terror by Trinamool Congress and ruled out any reported understanding between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

"The PM and Mamata can sit together, but there is no understanding between them. Mamata is rather trying to overcome hurdles on various issues by coming closer to the PM," BJP state president Rahul Sinha said here addressing party supporters assembled for the 'law violation' programme. "A state-sponsored terrorism has been unleashed by the Trinamool Congress here to thwart any movement by the opposition, but the Mamata Banerjee government cannot stop us from raising our voice against their misdeeds," Sinha said.

Several BJP workers wanted 'court arrest' during the course of the programme. The police officers declared all of them "arrested" but "released" them later. The workers were not taken into prison van. During the programme, which began with a procession from College Square till Rani Rasmoni Sarani, the BJP workers also protested against the state government's alleged failure to ensure farmers the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy.

Even as the Centre has declared MSP for paddy at Rs 1,400 per quintal, the farmers in the state were not getting that amount because of interference by the pro-TMC middlemen, Sinha alleged. Stating that a number of farmers in the state had committed suicide for want of adequate price of their crops, Sinha highlighted the plight of the potato farmers in particular.

On the law and order situation, he alleged that "women in the state are totally unsafe, except Mamata Banerjee." "People had high expectations from the Mamata Banerjee government, but now they are totally demystified. The Left Front is also finished here. The BJP is the only alternative in the next Assembly elections," Sinha claimed.
