A day after BJP's defeat in Bongaon Lok Sabha seat and Krishnaganj Assembly constituency, BJP MP Chandan Mitra on Tuesday said the party needed to stress on increasing its organisational strength if it wants to win the upcoming municipal polls in West Bengal.

"It's true that BJP's vote share has increased in both the seats. But I am a bit disappointed as BJP could not perform as it was expected. We should have done much better in both the seats," Mitra said.

"BJP should stress on increasing its organisation across the state rather than getting carried away by a hype created. If we are not able to create a strong organisation we won't be able to make an impact in the polls," Mitra, a Rajya Sabha MP, said. BJP's lone MLA  Samik Bhattacharya too agreed with Mitra and said the party didn't have enough organisational skill to counter Trinamool Congress.

"After BJP's assembly victory in Basirhat South, a message went out loud and clear that BJP can win elections. But unfortunately, we didn't have enough organisational skill and resources to counter Trinamool Congress at the grassroots level," Bhattacharya said.

Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress swept crucial Bongoan Lok Sabha and Krishnaganj assembly bypolls reasserting its political supremacy in West Bengal where the BJP is trying to make inroads. The saffron brigade tried to find solace in the increase in its vote share in Bongaon Lok Sabha and Krishnaganj assembly seats.
