The national office-bearers of BJP today got together here to draw up the agenda for the first meeting of the party's national executive after it came to power at the Centre.

The meeting started with BJP chief Amit Shah addressing the office-bearers and discussing the agenda for the two-day conclave of the national executive on April 3 and 4.

Shah told the party leaders about BJP having become the largest party in the world after enrolling nearly 10 crore members.

The BJP President also discussed the two resolutions to be presented during the two-day meet, the first after BJP assumed power at the Centre.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also address the office- bearers' meeting and take stock of the discussions held today.

Other invitees at the meeting include all MPs and MLAs/ MLCs of Karnataka.

"The party leaders lauded the efforts of the BJP President and all those involved in the membership drive and in making BJP the largest party in the world," BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain told reporters about the meeting, which got underway even as Congress workers protested near the venue over Union Minister Giriraj Singh's derogatory remarks against Sonia Gandhi.

Claiming there were some states where BJP has increased its membership by three-to-seven-fold, Hussain said that Shah lauded the party units which achieved high enrolment figures during the drive.

Meanwhile, as to allegations of "fake" memberships being made by Congress, the spokesperson said that the rival party should worry about itself and not the BJP.

"Congress leaders should not worry about BJP. Why are our opponents worried," he said while emphasising that the verification of new members would be done in due course.

The national executive meet will be inaugurated tomorrow by Shah while Prime Minister Modi is to chair the meeting which will be attended by senior party leaders and the 111-member executive, besides the chief ministers and former chief ministers of BJP-ruled states and other invitees.

"There will be two resolutions passed at the meeting of the national executive," Hussain said.

"There will be a political resolution highlighting the current political situation in the country and listing the achievements of the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"There will also be another resolution on the success of the country's foreign policy under Modi which will highlight the growing prestige of India and the progress made on improving foreign relations," he added.

As to the day-long deliberations today, Hussain said it will discuss the programme for BJP Foundation Day on April 6 and BR Ambedkar's anniversary on April 14 along with the completion of one year of government formation on May 26 and celebration of International Yoga Day on June 21, which was achieved through the prime minister's initiative.

"There was an atmosphere of fervour and enthusiasm at the party office-bearers' meeting, where the success of the party and the government was discussed," Hussain said, adding that issues concerning the Clean India and Clean Ganga campaigns would also be taken up.

The two-day meeting of the newly-reconstituted National Executive of BJP will also take stock of various programmes initiated by the Modi government in the last 10 months and focus on the pro-farmer credentials of the Land Bill in a bid to blunt the opposition's attack.

The BJP brass is likely to ask its members to take the message of the government to the farmers that the Bill was a pro-farmer step aimed at ensuring all-round development and progress in the rural areas. The party has also prepared a power-point presentation explaining its stand on the issue.

On the land Bill, Hussain said, "All the issues connected with the public will be discussed."

He said that the meeting will also work out plans for celebrating the birth centenary next year of Deendayal Upadhyaya, a stalwart of the erstwhile Jan Sangh, which was the forerunner of the present-day BJP.

To a question on whether BJP veteran LK Advani would address the national executive on the last day of the meet, Hussain said, "All prominent leaders will speak. We will continue to seek the blessings and guidance of all our senior leaders."
