Just as the BJP parliamentary party meeting was coming to an end on Wednesday morning, an MP from Uttar Pradesh expressed concern that the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana had not reflected on the ground in the state.

The first time Lok Sabha member from Ballia Bharat Singh said while the Centre released crores of rupees for it, no roads had been constructed under the scheme in the state. He complained that the ministers did not give timely and adequate response to members' concerns about the issue and the UP government did not involve MPs in implementation of the central schemes. While the state government implements the scheme, the Centre reviews them, he said.

The MP, who was sitting in the back rows, made these observations in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior cabinet ministers. He is understood to have cautioned about the electoral consequences of central schemes not being implemented.

According to sources, some members applauded when he was speaking. However, as he continued speaking, parliamentary affairs minister Venkaiah Naidu said his point has been noted and ended the meeting, sources said.

While the BJP won 72 of the 80 seats in UP during the Lok Sabha elections, the party has lost 11 by-elections after that. The party is now targeting the 2017 assembly polls.

Earlier in the meeting, it was announced that union ministers and party MPs and functionaries will convey to the people across the country about the government's flagship schemes for the poor and farmers. This was part of the week-long "Jan Kalyan Parv" from May 26 to mark the Modi government's one year in office. Union minister Ananth Kumar said the initiative was for highlighting the schemes and policies of the government.

Besides, on May 9 the government will roll out the social security insurance scheme "jeevan jyoti" across the country. While Modi will launch it in Kolkata, finance minister Arun Jaitley will be in Mumbai, home minister Rajnath Singh in Lucknow and Venkaiah Naidu in Varanasi.
