BJP marches in Kerala, leaders taken into custody

The state leadership of the BJP had organised the march demanding among other things closure of terror centres and a ban on extremist organisations.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Kerala units march to Green Valley, a centre of the radical organisation, Popular Front of India (PFI),at Manjeri in Malappuram district, was blocked by the police and the leaders were arrested, here today.

The leaders including its president V Muralidharan, K Surendran and AN Radhakrishnan, both general secretaries and Sobhana Surendran, president, State Mahila Morcha  were arrested immediately after it was inaugurated.

The march was inaugurated by Muralidharan.

Top states leaders of the party courted arrest, amidst slogan shouting activists.

The state leadership of the BJP had organised the march demanding among other things closure of terror centres and a ban on extremist organisations.

V Muraleedharan said that the party had decided to take out the march to valley following the governments failure to act against the PFI.

Meanwhile, a group of PFI workers had also assembled about 200 metres away from the venue of BJP meeting and dispersed later.

However, no untoward incident was reported.
