Amid sting operations by two news channels on some MLAs in Karnataka ahead of Rajya Sabha polls, AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh on Friday claimed the JD(S) and BJP are known for offering seats with "money bags" and that Vijay Mallya is the "best such example".

He distanced Congress legislators from the expose carried out by two private channels that purportedly showed MLAs negotiating a money deal in exchange for their votes in the biennial elections to four Rajya Sabha seats from the southern state.

"None of the Congress MLAs or people close to them or the party are part of the seat-for-sale expose," Singh told reporters.

"In fact, the JD (S) and BJP have always been giving seats with money bags. The best example is that of Vijay Mallya," he said.

To a query that an MLA purportedly claimed in the footage that Congress has offered him Rs 100 crore for development of his constituency, Singh said, "The MLA has the right on the work in his constituency. He has the right to demand funds and schemes for the constituency".

Liquor baron and Independent MP Vijay Mallya, facing a case of loan default of over Rs 9,400 crore, had resigned from his membership to the Upper House last month.
