On the first day of the BJP’s national executive meet, the Congress said that the rival party’s “stoic silence” on important issues meant that it was indifferent to people’s sufferings.

“In 52 months, the BJP has delivered ‘division, deception, doublespeak & duplicity’ hitting at India’s core values,” wrote Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala on microblogging site Twitter.

“‘Breaking’ the backbone of India’s MSME’s & shopkeepers through flawed GST; ‘Jamming’ the economy through Demonetization disaster; ‘Perish’ the future of youth & farmers.”

Bringing up what he claimed new findings in the defence deal with France, Surjewala said that the Modi government is caught up in its “web of lies”.

Calling the deal a Rs 41,000-crore scam, he said that there were 13 India-specific requirements demanded by the previous UPA government in the 126 aircraft as per the Air Staff Qualitative Requirements provided by the Indian Air Force.

However, they are missing from the BJP government’s deal, he said.

“The specific enhancements included radar, helmet-mounted display, towed decoy system, low band jammer, radio altimeter and, the ability to start and operate from high altitude airfields. In fact, the combat aircraft tender issued by Congress government clearly stated ‘full weaponry’ and ‘Transfer of Technology’. This is missing in the BJP’s deal,” he said.

“The Request For Proposal (RFP) issued by the UPA government clearly stated ‘cost of initial purchase, transfer of technology, licensed production, etc.’ But the current contact does not say all that,” said Surjewala.

The Congress leader said that the Modi government’s claim that the cost is increased because of additional technical specifications is “blatantly false”. “Infact, the Rafale aircraft which were purchased by the UPA and those purchased now, including those with ‘its associated systems and weapons’, are the same as tested and approved by Indian Air Force during UPA,” said Surjewala.
