The ruling National Conference on Tuesday alleged that BJP was hoodwinking the people of Jammu and Kashmir and urged electors to vote the candidates who are connected with the people at grassroots level.

"The BJP is hoodwinking the people of the state... The fact that they are banking upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi which itself speaks about their hollowness...," NC senior vice president Surjeet Singh Slathia said. Former cabinet minster Slathia was addressing an election rally in Vijaypur here.

He said that the ongoing elections were about redressing the local issues by the government in the state and this could be achieved by electing the representatives who are connected with the people at grassroots level. "People want development, employment and all the basic services that can make their living comfortable. They cannot be fed with false promises and emotive slogans," he said.

The voters are politically sagacious enough and know that BJP has no prospect of forming a government in Jammu and Kashmir, Slathia said. "Those seeking votes on a particular name were in fact exposing their own worth and standing among the people. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has failed in delivering even after seven months of BJP government in New Delhi," he alleged, adding that prices were raising fast and the gap between rich and poor widening on an alarming scale.

"The dream of Achhe din (good days) has fractured and the government in New Delhi was now resorting to political gimmickry. This may work somewhere but not in Jammu and Kashmir where the people are wise enough to read between the lines," Slathia said.
