BJP today rubbished Nitish Kumar accusing the party of trying to destabilise the JD(U) government in Bihar and hit back at him for 'begging' before Lalu Prasad to ensure his candidates' victory in the Rajya Sabha by-polls. "BJP has no interest to destabilise the Jitan Ram Manjhi government which is being remote controlled by Nitish Kumar," BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi said.

"He (Kumar) himself has set his house on fire and now blaming us (BJP) for it," he said in his reaction to Kumar's accusations of BJP engineering defection in JD(U). "Truth is that he (Kumar) himself is an expert in engineering defection in other parties. He fomented dissension within the RJD resulting in defection of 13 MLAs and ultimately asking three of them to resign from the Assembly to bring down the House strength," he alleged. Kumar, the BJP leader also alleged, has been after BJP Legislators and wanted them to leave the party and join JD(U).

Modi also slammed Kumar for 'begging' before arch-rival Lalu Prasad to ensure victory of JD(U) candidates in the RS by-poll.

On JD(U) rendering support to Congress for the Leader of Opposition (LOP) post in Lok Sabha, despite falling short of requisite numbers, Modi reminded Kumar of Congress' refusal of the LOP status to TDP in 1984 when it had the maximum number of 30 seats among opposition parties.
