The BJP on Tuesday hailed results of the first ever Gram Panchayat elections held in Maharashtra and local bodies polls in Gujarat as indication of people's faith in its policies.

"The BJP has won 1,457 Sarpanch seats in Maharashtra besides winning six of the eight local bodies elections in Gujarat. Rahul Gandhi who is campaigning in Gujarat should understand that his presence always helps BJP," said Javadekar.

Taking a dig at Congress scion, Javadekar said, it smacks of bankruptcy if someone depends on Twitter to generated popularity and does not have a ground base.

"We have won 1457 Sarpanch seats in Maharashtra in comparison to Congress's 301, Shiv Sena's 222 and NCP's 194. This proves that the whole of rural Maharashtra is solidly behind BJP. This victory also tells what results other elections are going to throw up,"said Union HRD minister, Prakash Javadekar.

Though party symbols are not used in Gram Panchayat polls, the BJP had declared the names of all the candidates it was backing beforehand.

The results for most local bodies polls in Maharashtra since 2015 have gone in BJP's favour. In elections for Municipal Corporation, the BJP had romped home with 871 seats relegating Shiv Sena to a distant second with 428 seats and Congress on third place with 325. Again in Zila Parishad polls, the BJP emerged with lion's share of 406 seats beating NCP (360) to second place and Congress with 309 seats to third place.

Referring to the resentment in various state units of the Congress, he said the Congress got divided in Gujarat after Shankar Singh Vaghela left the party but was not paying attention to it.

"Even in Amethi, many Congress workers joined the BJP today. In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the Congress is not there even on the map with no chance of revival," Javadekar said.

Javadekar also questioned Rahul's knowledge about RSS and said, "He has never seen Shakhas and that is why does not know about Rashtriya Sevika Samiti where women hold separate shakhas. He only tweets dictated content."
