Maintaining that the manner in which the BJP-led Maharashtra government won the confidence vote is legal, senior BJP leader and Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said here today that it would have survived anyway.

"What has happened in Maharashtra, as far as the confidence vote of the new government is concerned, is perfectly legal", Javadekar told reporters here today.

Noting that he was a member of the Legislative Council for 12 years, Javadekar said if one does not ask for division of votes in time, it's up to the Chairman of the House to give a ruling, which is final.

"It has not happened for the first time. More importantly, even if somebody would have asked for division of votes in time, our government would still have survived," he said, adding that nobody would have opposed formation of the government in the state.

He said that the incident of the Governor got injured, is "serious" and "unacceptable". Though everybody had a right to protest, it should be done in a dignified way, he said.

Asked if "it is the end of the road" for the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance in Maharashtra, Javadekar said, "There cannot be an end of the road for any matter. A way is available even in a jungle (forest). That is a separate issue," he said.
