The recent spate of farmer agitations across the country indicates a growing discontent among them, and the BJP-led government has taken a note of it.

In a bid to contain this simmering unrest which may have a significant impact in the coming assembly elections in five states, the BJP has decided to placate farmers by publicising the good deeds the Narendra Modi-led Central government has done for them.

BJP's Kisan Morcha president Virendra Singh Mast on Saturday constituted a nine-member body named National Media Committee (NMC) that will specifically look into farmers' issues.

Mast said, "The Modi government has taken innumerable pro-farmer decisions that are going to change their lives for the better, but the Opposition is trying to reap electoral benefit by casting doubts in the minds of farmers."

"We will not allow this to happen by telling farmers about the good intent of the government and informing them about the various schemes that will go a long way in their favour, including the latest decision of enhancing MSP for rabi crops," said Mast.

The convenor of the committee, Mahesh Verma said that besides listening to the woes of farmers, the committee would also launch a nationwide campaign to publicise various schemes launched by the Modi government for the welfare of farmers.

"We will use the social media and other forms of media, like regional channels, newspapers and radio programmes, to inform farmers about these schemes," said Verma.

Morcha members said that while the newly announced umbrella scheme PM-AASHA (Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay SanraksHan Abhiyan) has a lot to offer, the farming community was yet to be fully aware of its benefits.

The scheme includes the mechanism of ensuring remunerative prices to farmers as it comprises Price Support Scheme (PSS), which mandates that Central Nodal Agencies along with state governments physically procure pulses, oilseeds, and copra from farmers, and Price Deficiency Payment Scheme (PDPS) which allows oilseed farmers to get the difference between MSP and monthly average price of oilseeds quoted in the wholesale market, a Morcha member said.

Morcha's Uttar Pradesh chief and former advisor of Punjab government, Vineet Joshi and former IT cell head of Delhi region, KC Sharma have been appointed as co-convenors of the NMC. Devendra Dev and Rakesh Bali and RSS pracharak Rajeshwar Prasad Chourasia have been appointed as national secretaries of the body.

Kiran Jha, Dheeraj Bhardwaj, Dhananjay Parkhe and Arun Sharma 'Lucky' will be the members of the working committee of the NMC.
