While Finance Minister Arjun Jaitley acknowledged the dip in the country's growth rate, promising to undertake measures to change the "environment", two other ministers, Nitin Gadkari and Piyush Goyal, listed social and economic programmes of the government that is leading the country on the path of progress and development. The three ministers were fielded separately by the BJP to brief about its closed-door meeting of its extended National Executive in the Talkatora Stadium here.

Jaitley blamed the low GDP growth in the first quarter of 2017-18 to the decline in the manufacturing sector after the GST regime was implemented. He also took a swipe at the UPA, saying eliminating black money and corruption from the country was never in the previous government's agenda. "So it is obvious that our efforts to do so will not have the support of UPA leaders," Jaitley said. "Those on the receiving end of our government's anti-corruption stance are uneasy." He further said the BJP was certain of victory in 2019, "and we are certain of building a New India by 2022."

Gadkari and Goyal asserted that programmes launched by the government have started showing results and cited instances after instances. Though the executive was convened to prepare for the 2019 polls, the repeated focus of leaders was putting a timeline of achieving goals of 'New India' by 2022.

Gadkari said it was Modi government which took India from 2.4% GDP growth to 8.7%. He also asserted that a not a single charge of corruption has been levelled in the last three years on the Modi government. "We want friendship with Pakistan and hence the PM broke protocols and went to meet Pakistan Sharif," he said, adding that Pakistan continues to promote terrorism while the present government has a "zero tolerance" against terrorism.

Gadkari quoted the PM's Independence Day speech that "Na gaali se samasya sulajhne wali hai, na goli se...samasya suljhegi har Kashmiri ko gale lagane se (Neither abuses, nor bullets will bring a change. The change will take place when we embrace every Kashmiri)." He also showered praise on PM Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for implementing, one tax regime of GST and listed out the BJP government's steps to curb corruption.
