The BJP on Thursday demanded inquiry by special investigation team (SIT), constituted under a judge of the Rajasthan HC, in the high profile case of alleged rape involving Rajasthan minister Babulal Nagar.
Bhupendra Yadav, Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan, accused the police of flouting Supreme Courts’ directive and guidelines of National Human Right Commission. “There are clear guidelines that spot verification and collection of evidence cannot be done in presence of the accused. The investigation and indemnification of evidence was done in Nagar’s presence; this is illegal,” Yadav said.
He added that police took 24 hours to record victim’s statement and the investigation was slowed deliberately to give the accused enough time to destroy evidence. He said that as per the SC and NHRC guidelines, the victim, after being called at police station, should be promptly given legal assistance to ease any fear of intimidation before giving statement.
