Refuting former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's claim that he did his duty during the 2G and Coalgate scams, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday said that Singh had failed to do his duty and that he should explain what prevented him from doing his duty. "Contrary to what Manmohan Singh has said that 'I did my duty', he didn't do his duty. Had he done his duty, the country wouldn't have seen the humongous losses that we saw in all the scams. In fact, Manmohan Singh should answer or come out clean on the fact that who prevented him from doing his duty," said BJP spokesman Sambit Patra.

On Sunday, Manmohan Singh had declined to comment on former Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India Vinod Rai 's allegations that he didn't act despite being aware of the situation. On Thursday, Rai had alleged that three former Congress Party Members of Parliament had put pressure on him to keep Singh's name out of the 2G scam report. He also alleged that contrary to reports, Singh was well aware of the impending scam.
