After the "nationalism is our identity" pitch before BJP's state leaders, party chief ministers and Rajya Sabha MPs are likely to get tips from the brass.

This is part of the exercise undertaken by the leadership to keep party leaders on their toes as the Modi government reaches half-way through its tenure. Besides elections in states like Uttar Pradesh and Punjab next year, the leadership also wants the party to start preparing to face the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP's focus is on strengthening the organisation ahead of the general elections. Sources said the leaders wanted the party to be in battle-ready mode.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah are likely to address both the meetings. The meeting with the chief ministers is to be held on Saturday while the one with Rajya Sabha MPs is expected to convened next week.

While Lok Sabha MPs are in touch with people in their constituencies, the BJP wants the Elders also to connect to people, sources said.

The first in the series of such meetings was held on Tuesday. The Prime Minister while addressing core groups of states asked them to reach out to people using the language of the common man and acquaint them with the pro-people measures of the government. He also spoke of party ideologue Deendayal Upadhyay and his goal of antyodaya. Modi has been stressing on reaching out to the last man in the queue.

The party has already set its eyes on 2019. In 2014, the BJP had peaked in its performance in most northern states with some-- Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi-- giving the party 100 per cent victory. Besides, it swept Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. For the BJP to retain its score of 282, it would have to ensure that it did not lose seats in these strongholds. To make up for any losses in these states, the BJP would have to count on states where it did not do too well in 2014 or was not an influential player. This would mean making significant inroads into states like West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and in the northeast. The BJP is already targeting the BJD in Odisha, hoping to cash in on the "anti-incumbency" against the Navin Patnaik government.
