Following the revelations by ex-PMO media adviser Sanjaya Baru in his book, the opposition BJP stepped up pressure on Congress.

The BJP claimed that the truth was out and said that 'the PM presides, Sonia decides in the UPA government.'

However, the Prime Minister's Office hit out at Sanjaya Baru's claims, calling them 'fictitious'. The current PMO adviser Pankaj Pachauri said that Sanjay Baru's statements were baseless and 'a misuse of official position.'

The former PMO media adviser had said that Sonia Gandhi cleared files even before Manmohan saw them, and went on to describe several occasions on which the Prime Minster's authority was superseded by Sonia Gandhi and allies. He also said he was 'suprised' at the 'spinelessness' of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
