The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday accused Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of attempting to treat journalists as party colleagues rather than as members of the fourth estate.

Responding to Kejriwal's charge that the media was tarnishing the image of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) image, BJP spokesman G.V. L. Narasimha Rao told ANI, "Arvind Kejriwal wants to treat the national media exactly the way he treats his party colleagues. Kick them out when it doesn't suit. The media cannot be kicked around by Mr. Kejriwal. The media works according to its own standards."

"Kejriwal is taking out his anger against the media for his falling popularity which has touched the lowest levels now. Rather than doing introspection, Kejriwal wants to shoot the messenger, shoot the media. He will simply not succeed," he added.

On Sunday, Kejriwal alleged that a section of the media had tried to tarnish the image of the Aam Aadmi Party, calling for their 'public trial'.

He also defended Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar, who is accused of faking his law degree, adding that the latter had provided him with a 'satisfactory answer' when questioned over the validity of his degree.
