Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Siddharth Nath Singh on Monday said that West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee has caused embarrassment to the Government of India by giving leverage to Bangladesh.
"The Burdwan incident has given some leverage to Bangladesh to negotiate on issues like Teesta water and land dispute. However, we have two different issues to deal with; the other one is related to the national security of the country, where the Mamata Banerjee government has compromised and embarrassed the Government of India," said Singh.
"But we are transparent as a government at the Centre. Therefore, keeping the interest of the people in mind, India will negotiate with Bangladesh. We will cooperate with the Bangladesh Government but we expect them to cooperate as well as we have zero tolerance towards terrorism," he added.
The BJP leader further said it is extremely unfortunate that Mamata Banerjee has given this leverage to Bangladesh.
"But at the end of the day, it is the Government of India which will be negotiating, and we will keep the interest of India foremost when we do any bilateral negotiations," he added.
Reportedly, the Bangladesh Government is now planning to pressurize the West Bengal Chief Minister on the Teesta water dispute after Jamaat-e-Islami links were found behind the recent blast in Burdwan.
Holding the Centre responsible for Burdwan blast, TMC leader and West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee had earlier said that the government sitting in New Delhi is not serious and competent enough to depute border guards and that is why illegal migrants are intruding in the state.
Two suspected militants were killed and one sustained injuries in an explosion at a TMC leader's house in Burdwan town on October 2.
Two women were arrested on October 5 in connection with the explosion. The police are probing the possible involvement of militant outfits in the blast.
A large number of watch dials, SIM cards, and other tools required to make improvised explosive devices were found in the house where the blast took place during the Durga Puja festival.
