Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar accused Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday for trying to create "communal tension" in the state to "polarize" people on "communal lines" in the upcoming Assembly polls scheduled for later this year.

"The BJP is trying to create communal tension in Bihar at local level in the districts on some pretext or other," the Chief Minister told reporters in Patna. The communal tension being created by the BJP and Sangh Parivar were localized in nature in order to polarize the people on communal lines, Kumar said adding that he had seen a pattern in this regard ever since the JD(U) walked out of the NDA two years ago.

"In some places, there are issues related to pork being thrown to provoke certain community and in other places different things are being done to incite communal tension," he said. "Wherever we detect an incident aimed at creating communal tension in the state, we immediately get on work to neutralize it," the chief minister said.

Charging the BJP with fooling the people by swaying them to vote for it in the name of development and other promises, Kumar said that the saffron party would go in the similar manner in which it had come to power at the Centre.
