Mayurbhanj MP and BJD parliamentary party secretary Ramchandra Hansda along with two former MLAs were arrested on Tuesday by CBI, which is probing the multi-crore ponzi scam. The arrest of party MP put Naveen Patnaik and his scam tainted government in for more trouble as his one-time close aide and ex-party chief whip in the state assembly senior MLA Pravat Tripathy was arrested in the same scam a week earlier. Later, BJD president and chief minister Naveen Patnaik suspended Hansda and former party MLA Subarna Nayak after they were arrested by the CBI on charge of criminal conspiracy in the multi-crore chit fund scam in Odisha.

The CBI officials probing the scam which involves about Rs 40,000 crore collected from nearly 20 lakh people, arrested BJD parliamentary party secretary in Loksabha Ramchandra Hansda, ex-MLA of BJD Subarna Nayak and ex-MLA of BJP Hitesh Bagarti in charges of criminal conspiracy and financial fraud.

They were arrested after three rounds of interrogation held duing last one month. Earlier, CBI officials had raided their house and offices. These leaders were directors in a ponzi company, Nabadiganta Capital Services. CBI officials found Rs 28 lakh in cash from Hansda's house, the source of which he could not specify.

As the CBI investigation progressed into the scam more and more politicians from ruling BJD were being exposed having link with illegal chit fund operators bringing more trouble for the scam tainted Naveen Patnaik government.

Earlier, on October 27 BJD MLA and former chief whip of the party in the assembly Pravat Tripathy was also arrested after five round of interrogation. He was allegedly involved in Arthatatwa chit fund scam. CBI found evidential links between Tripathy and AT group chief Pradip Sethy who has been in judicial custody for about six months.

Another BJD MLA and son of BJD Rajya Sabha member Kalpataru Das who was also a minister in Naveen Patnaik government, Pranab Balabantray was interrogated for nearly 6 hours in the CBI office last September.
