Many BJD leaders today disapproved of party MP Baijayant Panda's suggestions through twitter and write up in newspaper to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to "introspect" and "rediscover BJD's original strength".

The leaders did not accept Panda's op-ed page write up in an Odia daily yesterday where the Kendrapara MP suggested BJD President and chief minister to "introspect" on the present situation in the party after the recent three-tier panchayat elections.

BJD vice-president and Minister Damodar Rout said, "He (Panda) might have good intentions. But he should not give statements on the party in public and instead meet the Chief Minister and discuss issues he wants to. He is an experienced and 4-time MP. His views should not be treated casually. His comments/statements could be for the benefit of the party." Asked about challenges before BJD as Panda apprehended, Rout rejected such possibilities and said: "I don t visualise any such challenge before. What his article says is he was a member of the core committee during formation of the party. If it is true, he must know everything. I do not know that as I was not in the core committee." Disapproving Panda's statements in the twitter and newspaper article, BJD spokespersons Samir Ranjan Dash and Amar Satpathy said the Kendrapara MP should have gone to the party chief to convey his views.

"The whole episode of what is happening in public has drawn chief minister's attention. He will take appropriate decision at the right time," they said.

Former Minister and senior MLA Debasis Nayak also did not approve the idea of going to twitter. "If they have any personal issues with anybody, they should take the matter to the notice of party chief. But discussing in public or media is not acceptable. BJD is united and a strong party under the leadership of Naveen Patnaik," Nayak said.

Cuttack (Barabati) MLA Debasis Samantray criticised views expressed through twitter. "MPs have little knowledge about what is happening in the grassroots-level. But, MLAs work hard at this level. The current indiscipline arising out of their comments on social media would not affect the party in any way. Party supremo is all aware about it," Samantray said. A day before Panda's op-ed page article, MPs Tathagat Satpatahy and the Kendrapara MP were engaged in a twitter war. In his latest tweet, Panda has said: "Vested interests trying to distort, but I want NP (Naveen Patnaik) to recognise current challenges, take urgent steps & rediscover BJD s original strengths ??"
