Microsoft founder Bill Gates will help Uttar Pradesh government set up a Regional Vector-borne Diseases Centre at the BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur to help state government fight against Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) and Japanese Encephalitis.
The medical college in Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's hometown had hogged national and international media headlines when over 33 children had died due to shortage of oxygen in the month of August. BRD Medical College is the only hospital in Eastern Uttar Pradesh to cater to a population of over 5 crore from 12 districts of eastern UP, Bihar and Nepal.
After meeting Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi, the Chairman of the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation met CM Adityanth in Lucknow on Friday. During their 45-minute meeting, the two discussed IT, health and hygiene, sanitation, cleanliness, farm sector and strengthening Anganwadi Centres.
Bill Gates agreed to make investment and provide know-how in spreading awareness on vector-borne diseases in Uttar Pradesh. He announced to help UP government in setting up a Regional Vector-borne Disease Centre at the BRD Medical College in Yogi Adityanath's hometown Gorakhpur.
Accompanied with wife Melinda Gates and a delegation of his foundation, Bill Gates also showed willingness to make investment in the IT, Health, Farm, malnutrition and education sectors to improve the area of cooperation between the UP government and his foundation.
Foundation of Bill Gates is working in Uttar Pradesh since 2012. "The UP government has signed a MoU with the foundation for five years to work together in different sectors," said Awanish Awasthi, the Principal Secretary Information.
CM Adityanth hoped that the ties with the Foundation of Bill Gates will not only generate employment opportunities but will help state acquire newer technologies to improve standards of living in Uttar Pradesh.
