Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia on Tuesday filed a case of criminal defamation against senior AAP leader and incharge of the party's Punjab affairs Sanjay Singh in a court here for alleging that he had patronised the drug mafia.

The case was filed in the court of Judicial Magistrate Bikramdeep Singh under section 499/500 (defamation) of IPC. In his complaint, Majithia, who is also the grandson of a former Union minister Surjit Singh Majithia and elder brother of Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, rejected the allegation levelled against him by AAP leader Sanjay Singh of having patronised the drug mafia, saying it was baseless. He said that the allegation has damaged his reputation.

The court has fixed January 15 for hearing in the case. Later, Majithia told reporters in the court complex that AAP leaders have the habit of making false allegations against the others just to play to the galleries and obtain cheap publicity. He said, "I will take the case to its logical conclusion."
