Bihar: Village head arrested with firearms, 150 bank passbooks

A village head in Bihar's East Champaran district was arrested on Tuesday morning for his alleged involvement in nefarious activities and liquor, firearms and 150 bank passbooks were also seized from him, police said.

In an early morning swoop, the police arrested the mukhiya of Shankar Sariya (North) panchayat and seized a rifle, revolver, 25 cartridges, Rs 1.85 lakh cash and 150 passbooks of various banks.

East Champaran Superintendent of Police Sunil Kumar said 50 ATM cards, 250 signed cheques and a huge cache of liquor have also been recovered from the house of the mukhiya (village head), identified as one Krishna Prasad.

"The raid was conducted with Special Task Force (STF) and Special Operations Group (SOG) teams at the Motihari-based house of Prasad. We were receiving complaints regarding his involvement in nefarious activities, and were keeping a watch over him," Kumar said.

The SP said the firearms are of good make, but their licenses have been issued in the name of one Sheshnath Prasad.

It was illegally kept in the house of the mukhiya.

"We are interrogating the arrested mukhiya at the Town police station here regarding his involvement in various criminal activities. We expect him to throw light on several crimes that happened in this area," Kumar added.
