In an attempt to boost up the shortage of doctors and perking up health facilities in the state, the Bihar government on Tuesday decided to consider foreign MBBS degree holders for employment in Bihar Health Services (BHS).

A decision in this regard was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Earlier MBBS degree holders from foreign universities were not eligible for BHS as there was no provision or rules regarding their employment.
Informing about the decision, Principal Secretary (Cabinet Coordination) B Pradhan said "MBBS degree holders from foreign universities are now eligible to take written examinations and interviews conducted for appointment of doctors on government service. Such persons will be given 50% weightage or maximum 25 marks in written and oral exams."
"Bihar needs doctors. Besides, if a boy or girl is the son of the soil, but has done MBBS at any foreign university, there should not be any discrimination against him or her. The only thing mandatory is, they should be registered with the Medical Council of India (MCI)," he said.
Pradhan said the decision taken by the cabinet would come as a boon for those who have completed medical education from universities in Russia, Ukraine, China, Singapore and other countries. At present Bihar has around 500 people who have completed MBBS from such universities.
In another decision, the cabinet decided to consider directly appointed Indian Forest Service (IFC) officers for promotion to senior pay scales, who were from non-Hindi speaking states and have failed in the Hindi subject in their departmental examinations.
Pradhan said the state government has also decided to create 684 posts of non-gazetted officials in 18 sub-divisional courts across the state. Altogether 145 posts were sanctioned for judiciary in Sheikhpura district as well.
In yet another decision taken by the cabinet, Public Distribution System (PDS) shop owners in the state would get Rs 101.47 per on every quintal of food grain as commission. The money includes transportation and handling charges, establishment cost, commercial taxes and dealer's margin. PDS shop owners till now got Rs 40 per quintal of food grain as commission.
