The National Commission for Women has directed the Bihar DGP to apprise it of the detailed action being taken in a case in which a woman was allegedly beaten and stripped by a mob in Bhojpur district, an official said.

The woman was beaten up, stripped and paraded naked yesterday on the streets by an irate mob which suspected her of being involved in the killing of a 19-year-old man.

Taking suo motu cognizance in the case, the NCW directed Bihar DGP KS Dwivedi to apprise it of the detailed action being taken in the matter at the earliest, the official said.

The commission took cognizance of the incident and serious note of the fact that no arrests were made by the police even after several photos and videos had been circulated on social media, she said.

The incident occurred in the Bihiya police station area, where the body of Vimalesh Sah, who went missing on Sunday, was found near a railway track yesterday, Bhojpur Superintendent of Police Avakash Kumar said.

He said the residents of Sah's native village Damodarpur rushed to the spot after they came to know about his death and some of them suspected that those living in a red-light area nearby strangled him to death.

The villagers stormed the place, setting afire a number of shops and beating up several residents. They dragged out the woman on the street, ripped off her clothes and paraded her naked while kicking and slapping her, the SP said.
