The undertrial was lodged in Sitamarhi jail, but was shifted to the Muzaffarpur hospital for treatment. Two men accosted her and raped here there on November 14. The incident came to light on Friday when she narrated the incident to jail authorities after her return to the jail.
An FIR was lodged and a probe was launched into the incident on Friday.
"We are going through the CCTV camera footage of the hospital and a probe is underway," said Muzaffarpur SSP Manoj Kumar. The Sitamarhi District Magistrate has also formed an investigation team to probe the incident.
However, a police source suggested that the video footage accessed by them did not corroborate the woman's version of the incident. "We are investigating it from all angles," the source said.
Meanwhile, the Opposition has attacked Nitish Kumar led NDA government over the incident and former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi said, "We have already submitted a memorandum to the Governor asking him to impose President's Rule in Bihar if he wanted the welfare of the people."
RJD President Lalu Prasad Yadav targeted the CM and tweeted, "Listen Nitish, Being deadly silent on crime is also a crime. It's height of lawlessness that women are raped in police custody and CM is quite." His son and Leader of the Opposition in Bihar Legislative Assembly, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav said, "The award of Best performing CM in Category of encouraging institutional mass rapes and patronising rapists goes to one and only Nitish Kumar Ji."
