After an earthquake of the magnitude 7.9 struck Nepal, the high intensity quake shook Bihar, bringing down a wall in a district jail, reports The Hindu.

A huge chunk of a wall of the women's ward in Madhepura district jail fell following the quake. Prison department officials have called the event a 'minor incident', the report added. The quake has claimed at least 50 lives in Bihar.

Madhepura lies 280 kms south of Patna. The district jail has not been renovated since the 1990s, the report said.

The jail holds 299 inmates who now live in fear and feel jittery following minor tremors. Fearing another quake or a major aftershock could endanger their lives, the jailor keys has been given to the sentry so that in case of danger the ward gate can be unlocked. The main gate will remain closed.
