The PM's proposed visit, however, comes just a day ahead of the much touted "BJP Bhagao, Desh Bachao" rally of the RJD in Patna, where several Opposition leaders and thousands of people are expected to participate.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take an aerial survey of the flood-affected districts of Bihar on August 26, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi confirmed on Wednesday. He had extended an invitation to the PM during his Delhi visit earlier this week.

The PM's proposed visit, however, comes just a day ahead of the much touted "BJP Bhagao, Desh Bachao" rally of the RJD in Patna, where several Opposition leaders and thousands of people are expected to participate. "I appeal to RJD President Lalu Prasad Yadav to postpone his August 27 rally and instead tour flood-affected districts and extend help in the rehab ops," Sushil Modi said.

Lalu, however, turned down the BJP leader's request and instead raised questions over the PM's visit to the flood-affected areas "so late". "He is visiting at a time when the floodwater is receding. What took him so long? Not even a single member of Modi's Cabinet from Bihar visited the flood victims," Yadav alleged.

While the politics over flood continues, the last update of the Bihar Disaster Management Department (DMD) on Wednesday said, a total of 21 of the 38 districts of Bihar are now affected by the deluge, with Siwan being the latest entrant in the list of flood-hit districts in the state.

The death toll reached 367 on Wednesday with 26 news deaths reported until Wednesday evening. "A total of 1.58 crore people in 7,310 villages in Bihar are affected by the floods, whereas only 7.76 lakh people have so far been evacuated. More than 1.67 lakh people are lodged in the 1,000 odd relief camps, while 4.23 lakh people are availing their meals from the community kitchen set up by the government," said Avinash Kumar, OSD, DMD, Bihar.

The government is in the process of assessing the infrastructural damage caused due to the floods. Their estimates suggest that 24,350 huts have been fully damaged and 1,075 have been partially damaged. At least 5.67 hectares of crops have also been ruined, besides the loss of livestock. The relief and rescue ops are underway in full speed with seven army units, 28 teams of the NDRF, and 16 teams of the SDRF on duty.
