While the results of Bihar elections crushed hopes for Bharatiya Janata Party's junior partners LJP, HAM and RLSP, two of which had made the most of Modi's wave in LS polls 2014, this party which made the most of the Grand Alliance was the Indian National Congress.

Reduced to a mere four seats in previous assembly elections in 2010 in the 243 constituencies, and to one seat in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Congress had lost the ground in Bihar but the victory of Grand Alliance had brought in some peace for the party. It would have, as per the present trends, close to 23 MLAs working in Bihar who might further improve the party image in Bihar.

With a strike rate of 55%, Congress has done much better than LJP, HAM and RLSP in terms of both vote share and seats.

Prior to Bihar, Congress faced a drubbing in Delhi where it failed to win a single seat. As far as Bihar is concerned, it will be the first time since 1995 that Congress has crossed the 20-seat mark.

In Bihar, the decline for the INC began in 1990 when it was reduced to 71 from 196 seats. In the 1995 election, it's downfall continued and it fell to 29 seats which further worsened even in 2000 to 14 seats, to 10 seats in 2005 and 4 in 2010.
