The Government of Bihar was left red-faced when images of stray dogs taking over a state-run hospital in the state's Nawada district went viral in the media on Wednesday.
The incident took place in Nawada's Sadar hospital where a number of stray dogs were seen resting on hospital beds while patients and their attendants were seen sitting on benches or adjacent beds.
Patients said that they do not get beds or bed-sheets as they have been "hijacked" by the dogs. Attendants said the hospital administration did not make any effort to remove the dogs and they were forced to "adjust" with them to get their relatives treated.
The Civil Surgeon (in charge), Nawada, said he had directed the hospital administration and guard to ensure that such an incident was not repeated. "I will also ask how this happened and who is responsible for it," he said.
