In another case that shows the high-handedness of Bihar’s education system, 42,500 answer sheets of Class 10th Bihar board exams were recovered from a scrap dealer, who had bought them for Rs 8,500.
The answer sheets that went missing from Gopalganj’s SS Inter College were sold to a scrap vendor Pappu Kumar Gupta for Rs 8,500. Both Gupta and an auto driver Sanjay Kumar who transported the copies were arrested.
Gopalganj SP Rashid Zaman said, “They regularly buy books and other scrap from the college (SS Inter College from where answer sheets went missing). It is fine if they bought it with the same purpose, but we are investigating if they had any other intention.”
There is something rotten with the state of Bihar’s education system. In 2016, the Class XII topper Ruby Rai had turned out to be a fraud and famously said “Maine to Papa se kaha tha pass karwa dijiye, unhone ne to top hi karwa diya” or in English, “I had only told my dad to get me passed but he went ahead and made me the topper.”.
Two years later, things haven’t improved much with some students actually getting more marks than the total!
A report in a leading daily stated that several students claimed they got more marks than the total while others revealed they got marks for papers they didn’t appear in.
One of the candidates, Bhim Kumar from Arwal district, got 38 out of 35 in mathematic theory while getting 37 out of 35 in objective-type questions.
Summing up the situation, he displayed a Camus-like ability to embrace the absurd as he said: “I am not shocked because such things have been happening in the state board exams for long.”
Janvi Singh, from Vaishali, who never appeared for the biology paper received 18 marks in the subject, while Satya Kumar from Ram Krishna Dwarika College in Patna was also given marks in another subject.
