Bihar CM Jitan Ram Manjhi directs police to take measures to contain crime

Faced with sharp attack by the opposition BJP over deterioration in law and order situation in Bihar, Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Thursday presided a high level meeting of the police brass and directed for stern measures to contain crime.

"There must be a total control over law and order situation in Bihar for which stern effective measures must be taken against the criminals," he said while presiding over a high-level meeting of the police brass attended by Director General of Police PK Thakur, Home Secretary Sudhir Kumar and other top officials at his residence. There should be daily review of the law and order situation at the police headquarters and special campaign be launched for arrest of those people against whom warrants have been issued, besides property of those evading arrest must be confiscated, Manjhi said.

Directing for the investigation in pending cases to be speeded up and regular inspection visit of senior police officers at police stations, the chief minister also called for speedy trial of the cases in a time-bound manner.
Manjhi further directed the police officials to ensure effective investigation in the cases registered under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Expressing concern at rise in incidents of robberies in trains, he asked senior police officials to put in place effective mechanism to prevent such incidents. The chief minister also reviewed status of economic offences and directed the police for effective measures to bring under control such crimes.

He said that a state-level meeting with the District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police will be held at January end to review measures taken to contain crime. A monthly review meeting will also be held with the chief minister on the law and order situation, he said.
