Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Sunday called upon the Dalits to unite and strengthen their position in the society.

Speaking at Darbhanga during his two-day inspection visit, Manjhi said, "We all Dalits belong to one family. We should not differentiate between one another. If Dalits, Mahadalits, backwards, extremely backwards and Pasmanda Muslims unite, it will strengthen their position in the society. Pasmanda Muslims are backward Muslims.

Speaking while having lunch at the house of a Mahadalit at Rampatti Tola under Thalwara Panchayat in Hanuman Nagar block of Darbhanga, Manjhi asked people present there to quit drinking so that their families could develop.

"My father used to drink and beat up my mother. As a result, I had to go without food at times. I requested him to quit drinking if he wanted that my brother and I would not work as labourers. He did that. I became CM and my brother became a police officer," Manjhi was quoted as saying in an official release in Patna.

He said a survey would be conducted for including all left out families in the BPL list.

He also announced that there will be toilets in each house by 2019, the release said. Ministers Shahid Ali Khan, Baidyanath Sahni and Ranju Geeta, several MLAs, and high officials accompanied the chief minister.
