A day after the Opposition attacked the state government saying that Bihar has become synonymous with gang-rape, two heinous incidents of rape were reported in the state.   

A minor girl was sexually assaulted by a Maulana in Darbhanga while a Class X student was gang-raped by her 10 schoolmates in West Champaran district, raising questions over the safety and security of women in Bihar.

The first incident was reported from Darbhanga where a 65-year-old Maulana has been accused of raping a nine-year-old girl. “According to the girl’s mother, the accused is the child’s tuition teacher. The victim is a primary school students and the teacher used to visit her house every evening for taking tuition,” the police said.

According to the complaint lodged with the police, “On Tuesday evening, accused M Rahman had come to their house to take the classes. But, all of a sudden the mother heard her daughter’s cry, and when she reached the room, she found the teacher in an inappropriate position. The victim was admitted to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital for treatment and the accused has been arrested by the police for interrogation,” he said.

In the second incident, a Class X student enrolled in a government school in West Champaran, has accused her 10 classmates of raping and threatening her with dire consequences. “The incident took place last week but the girl did not approach the police as she was scared. She later narrated her ordeal to her parents. The parents then lodged an FIR,” a cop said. He added, “According to the victim, she was overpowered by 10 school students, who took her to a deserted sugarcane field and took turns to rape her till she became unconscious. She returned home after gaining consciousness. A special investigation team of police has been formed.”

FOUND DEAD

Patna: A boy and a girl were found hanging in a house, in what is being suspected as a case of honour killing in Bihar’s Jehanabad district on Wednesday. The bodies were discovered from the girl’s house in Ghosi village and were sent for postmortem.
