Bihar Assembly Election 2020: Dates to be announced soon with COVID-19 protocol, code of conduct

Principal Secretary of the Health Department, Supriya Amrit informed the EC team about the latest status of corona and health services in the state through a presentation. Officials said that the commission team is satisfied with the preparedness of Bihar.

The two-member Election Commission team has returned from Bihar after a two-day visit. After meeting state officials and looking at the preparedness the EC team looked satisfied. EC may now announce Bihar Assembly Election 2020 dates anytime. The new code of conduct for the Bihar elections 2020 will include COVID-19 protocols not only for the political parties but also for the voters. 

Wearing masks at booths in Bihar assembly elections can be included in the Code of Conduct. Masks and gloves will be necessary for voters who come to vote. The use of sanitizer will be mandatory for the central security forces and state police who come under election duty. A two-member team of the Election Commission, which came to assess the election preparations, held a review meeting with the Chief Secretary on Tuesday.

Masks mandatory for voters
In the meeting, the government officials suggested making masks mandatory for voters. Without giving any opinion on this, the team of the Commission said that it has already been included in the guidelines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Review of state's election situation
The two-member election commission team includes Deputy Election Commissioners Sudeep Jain and Chandra Bhushan Kumar. They also met Bihar Chief Secretary Dipak Kumar and returned to Delhi satisfied with the preparations.  EC held a high-level meeting with the Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary of Home Department Aamir Shamtani, DGP Gupteshwar Pandey, Additional Chief Secretary of Excise and Alcohol Prohibition Department, Principal Secretary of Finance Department, Dr. S. Siddharth, and Secretary of Transport Department Sanjay Aggarwal, before leaving for New Delhi at 6 PM.

Official sources say that the commission team has returned satisfied with the preparations for the assembly elections in the state. During the first two days of its visit, the EC team had a discussion with Muzaffarpur and Patna divisional commissioners along with the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police of the respective districts. On the second day, the EC team had meetings with Bhagalpur and Bodh Gaya divisional officers.
