At least 50 students of eighth standard have fled the hostel by scaling the boundary wall of Navodaya Vidyalay complaining of ragging by seniors, District Magistrate Pranav Kumar said on Saturday.

Fed up with ragging by students of eleventh standard and inaction by authorities despite complaints in the past, the students after dinner scaled the boundary wall of the campus and fled late last night, Kumar said.

The incident came to light ton Saturday when during the morning assembly the students of 8th standard were not spotted. The school principal then enquired about them and came to know about the escape, a school official said.

The students who had run away assembled at the residence of the district magistrate this morning after which he called up the school Principal K Kanhaiya, Kumar said.

The DM asked the Principal to probe the complaints and call parents of the seniors found involved in ragging. Later, the students were sent to school with strict instruction to the Principal that there should be no further complaint, the DM said. About 500 children reside in hostels of the Navodaya Vidyalay at Sheikhpura.
