Police on Monday recovered the decomposed body of a middle-aged woman from a locality under the high security airport area in Bhubaneshwar.

"We have recovered the decomposed body of a woman hanging from a tree in airport area," Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Pranadhana Mohapatra told reporters.

While the woman was yet to be identified, police suspected that the incident could have happened about a fortnight ago as the body was highly decomposed. The woman was wearing a saree and blouse, police said.

The incident came to light on Monday morning when a staff of the airport had gone inside bushy locality between the old airport and the new terminal. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the commissionerate of police, CISF in charge of airport security said.

When contacted, Director of Biju Patnaik Airport, Sarat Kumar said, "This area is not used by us though it comes under airport premises. We will review the security arrangement in the old airport area."

It was not clear whether it was a case of murder or suicide, police said adding, the body was sent for post-mortem and investigation was on.

However, the incident has sent a shock wave in the city as this was seen as the fourth case of heinous crime against women in the state capital jurisdiction.

While a dancer girl was gang-raped by four youths in last week of December, another young girl was molested and pushed out of an auto-rickshaw in the city. Another woman was attacked and robbed while travelling in an auto-rickshaw in Rasulgarh area in Bhubaneshwar.
