Maharashtra caste violence reverberated in Rajya Sabha for the second day with Opposition members training guns on the BJP government in the state and seeking a speedy judicial inquiry to punish the culprits.

NDA ally Shiv Sena said not all such cases should be linked with Hindu organisations.

Rajani Patil of Congress, who gave notice in Rajya Sabha under rule 267 to take up the issue of Bhima Koregaon violence, alleged that atrocities against Dalits had taken place under the watch of the Maharashtra government and demanded setting up of a probe panel.

She also alleged that people behind the violence were associated with "Hinduwadi" outfits and demanded action against them. However, unlike Wednesday, the House did not witness disruption of proceedings on the issue today with several members appealing for peace and unity.

Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said, "Our approach should be to see that tempers come down and situation is brought back to normalcy. We should not accelerate the tension. After all, it is a social conflict."

Naresh Agrawal of the Samajwadi Party alleged that Maharashtra government failed to provide security to people while Nadimul Haque of Trinamool Congress called for stopping such "political lynching". Haque said the Maharashtra matter is not an isolated incident and a pattern is emerging.

Dilip Tirkey of BJD demanded a probe into similar incidents of violence across India. Veer Singh (BSP) blamed "bhagwa jhandadhari" (saffron flag-bearers) for the violence and seconded the demand of CPI-M's T K Rangarajan for a judicial inquiry by a sitting judge of the apex court. NCP chief and former Maharashtra CM Sharad Pawar apprised the House about the history of the Bhima- Koregaon event and the sentiments of Dalits associated with it.
